GORDON GOETEMANN
Artist Statement
Themes of life, energy and changes are as old as the sea itself. They stand as enigmatic evidence of man's origins. My efforts to speak to them derive from a stretch of coastline called Bass Rocks, Gloucester, MA.
Stylistically, the work ranges between the objective record of the representational and the interpretative discovery of the abstract. That is to say, the work is expressionistic at times and romantic at others. I have sought to feel substance and nuance and record them accurately.
Technically, the work is wide-ranging. From brush and knife impasto to transparent glaze, the application of paint attempts to speak to the perceived meaning of the subject matter.
